Strategy Steps: The Who & the What

Summarize below the current rational and emotional “state” of your audience based on your last experience of them or what your formal “audience analysis” process with other parties suggests. What are they Thinking, Feeling, Doing/Not Doing NOW with regard to your topic or issue? Then, set your objective for their “future state.” What should they be thinking, feeling and doing about this topic/issue as a result of your presentation, call or meeting?
(210 characters per field)

THINK

List what they think/know now. This tends to be more factual in nature. Then, state what they should know, understand, learn, admit, realize, etc. after your planned interaction.

FEEL

Describe their current emotional response/state. Then, posit what you want to move them to, or to experience, as as a result of this interaction. Consider things like trust, confidence, respect, not feeling threatened, inspired, motivated, understood, justified, etc.

DO

What are they doing/not doing vis-a-vis this topic or issue now? Consider what actions they should take that they haven’t before. Or, should they simply approve, agree, allow, adopt a different perspective? There may or may not be a physical action item attached to your interaction.
